“After I had the biopsy, people would say, ‘You’re okay. You’re going to be okay. It’s not going to be breast cancer.’
And I’d say, ‘Yea, you know, you’re probably right.’
And this one woman, the only person, said, ‘How do you feel about it?’
And I almost couldn’t answer her.
It was the weirdest thing. I guess I wanted to deny the fact that I knew it was going to be that. I didn’t want to say it out loud, that it very well might be, because I was afraid that would make it true.
It’s hard to say, it’s hard to specify….if it’s intuitive.”
“I do truly believe that the more positive you are, the more it helps your body, your mind, and your spirit.
And (admitting my fear that it was cancer) is kind of a negative thing. I’m generally a pretty positive person, and I guess part of me was afraid to acknowledge that, too.”
“I think my husband had a harder time with it than the kids.
After I had a pretty bad chemo day, he said, ‘This is so hard, because I feel so helpless. It’s like when the girls were babies, and they were sick and you want to help them so badly, but you can’t. I feel stuck. You feel horrible, and there is nothing I can say or do to help you through it. It’s you.’
I think that speaks to the point of, that basically, you face this on your own.
You have a LOT of really great support systems, but really, in the end, it’s you having to push through, or fight through.”

Amy,
You look awesome! I see your hair is coming back in — woot! Remember the day we met? Your first day of chemo? How scared you were? You did a better job of hiding it than I did; I started crying my first day. You are so beautiful and strong now. You are a true survivor!

I LOVE THIS!!!!
You are a brave and inspirational woman. I’m so proud of you and how hard you are fighting for yourself and your family. You are an excellent role model for your 3 little girls. Pat yourself on the back, tell yourself you’ve done good and share your story with others who need to fight like a woman.
And then when you are done, we are going to have a Amy kicked cancer’s ass trip!!!!!!!!
Love you!!!

I have always been beyond proud to call you my friend, and seeing you attack and conquer this challenge has been, quite frankly, life-affirming. Love always, Trav.
