Carol
On the lessons of caregiving…
“I have helped a lot of girls.
I have talked to a lot of strangers – a waitress in a coffee shop I’m in, a lady in the doctor’s office, sitting next to her – ‘You’re going to be fine. Here’s my number. Call me.’
It is the biggest network of girls.
A team. You’re on a team.
It’s like, these girls will be your best friends for the rest of your life…I had friends come over with pink flowers, and pink donuts. It’s just amazing how all the love pours in.
It’s really a great thing.
Out of a bad thing, a great thing happens.”
“These women are like gold. I can’t even put into words, the network. They constantly assured you that you weren’t feeling any different than anyone else who went through breast cancer.
They were right.
Everything they had said was right.
The advice was also that when you meet someone, and I have, and they need you. You know how to be there for them. You don’t really learn how to be compassionate, completely, until you’ve faced your worst fear.
It makes you a better person.”
