On having young children and cancer…
“My mom was so helpful to me in this whole process.
My mother had gone through breast cancer at 31 and her reconstruction had failed.
So, my own children had seen her scars.
When I told them that ‘Mommy has to have surgery like Grammie, and they have to take my breasts,’ they were like, ‘Oh. Okay.’
They didn’t think any more of it. “
“My boys were so compassionate and they understood they couldn’t jump on me and roll around. They would sit on the chair with me and watch a movie, or read a book.
They would ask me,
‘Mommy, does that hurt?
Is it okay?
I want to lay here next to you.’
Children are so thoughtful and have that amazing, innate ability to just know when somebody’s sick or just need their hand held, or a kiss.
It’s just amazing.
You know it, but when you actually see it, it’s amazing.”
